Expert Advice: Choosing The Right Sprinkler Pump Replacement

Sprinkler Pump Replacement Essentials

Now you're faced with the big question—do you repair it, or is it time for a total replacement?

We understand that this decision can feel like a high-stakes game. That's why we at Advanced Sprinklers, Inc., your trusted partner in lawn care, are here to help you make an informed, stress-free decision!

To Repair or Replace?

Most situations may call for a lawn sprinkler pump replacement. Here are some factors you should consider, except when a sprinkler pump is only a couple of years old. Replacing a motor on an older pump is not usually advisable because the customer will still have his old impeller, pump head, seals and ‘o’ rings that could go bad anytime after installation of a new motor only, costing the customer more than if the customer would have installed the entire new cast iron pump and won’t be needing to call the sprinkler company for many years.

The Age

Just like us humans, as pumps age, they become more susceptible to some ailments, or in their case–failures. The typical lifespan of a good-quality pump is around 12-20 years.

So, if your sprinkler pump is more than 5 or 6 years old we may recommend replacement. In order to repair a motor, it needs to be removed and taken to a motor shop. Taking into account the labor costs and time delay, this is not a cost effective option for most customers. Most of the time we recommend a brand new QUALITY cast iron sprinkler pump. We don’t recommend cheaper plastic sprinkler pumps, because if the check valve holding the water in the pump goes bad and the plastic pump runs dry, the plastic impeller and the plastic pump head will most likely melt due to the friction of the pump running dry. We have been in business for over 31 years and we always have used quality “cast iron” sprinkler pumps, so our customer never has to call us back because of a sprinkler pump installation. We like our quality cast iron pumps to last many years!

Being Unreliable

Have you found yourself constantly calling for repairs of your plastic pump because it seems to have a new problem every other week? Well, these frequent breakdowns are not just irritating and disruptive, but they can also lead to inconsistent watering and even potential damage to your lawn–a very good reason to call the professionals for a new cast iron one.

The Energy Hog

It's no secret that our newer sprinkler pump models are designed with energy efficiency in mind. If your old one is causing your energy bills to skyrocket–acting more like an energy vampire than a water provider, replacing it could save you a significant amount in the long run.

It can be complex, requiring specialized skills and tools. That's why we have our trained technicians who can diagnose and fix these issues, ensuring your system is back up and running smoothly.

When in Doubt, Ask!

Remember, these are general guidelines. Each sprinkler system is unique, and what works for one might not work for another. Just like you wouldn't self-diagnose a health issue based on general information, it's always advisable to get expert advice before making a decision.

Here at Advanced Sprinklers, Inc., our team of professionals can assess your system and provide recommendations tailored to your needs.

Repair or replacement, cleaning, adjusting, inspecting–we got you covered!
